This note came from my extended network on plant-based diets.
I stopped eating meat (except chicken) at age 9 because I couldn’t stand the thought of eating animals and I also just never enjoyed the taste. I then stopped eating chicken and eggs at age 18 when I learned how chicken are pumped full of hormones and all kinds of antibiotics and kept in such horrendous conditions. Now after 15 years of being fully vegetarian I’m starting to cut out dairy products too. Has been crazy. When I first became vegetarian it was really hard to find food I could eat out on the run. Fast food was out. Restaurants rarely accommodating for non-meat eaters. Now there’s so much more variety. People like James Asprey and Earthling Ed are doing incredible work in raising the consciousness around plant-based diets. watching documentaries like Cowspiracy, Earthlings, Forks over Knives etc it’s really reinforced how awful it is to eat sentient beings. The stress, fear and anxious feelings of the animals when they are slaughtered are then eaten by humans, literally ingesting fear – no wonder the massive rise in depression and anxiety in people.
Seeing the change in food over these years
